R&P Post 24: Costume Planning

Hello there! Today I will be discussing our ideas for different costumes that we will be using for the characters in our music video and how their outfits will represent them.

The girl in our music video is also going to be our artist. Because our song falls into the category of mainstream pop we are going to represent our artist as a conventional pop artist.  Here are some famous female pop stars that we can take inspiration from:

From looking at these photos from famous female pop stars, what I have learnt is that with female artists, colours that are heavily associated with them are constantly used in the way in which they are represented to their audiences. For example, red and white is strongly associated with Taylor Swift and she is often photographed wearing white with red lipstick which is her main look. Female pop artists are also often represented through their body image and their sexuality, with crop tops, off-the-shoulder tops and any other type of clothing that is slightly revealing being frequently used to represent these artists.

It is these representations and these clothing styles and fashions that attract audiences, particularly young audiences of teenagers which is also our own audience for our artist. Thus, for the girl in our music video we are planning to use somewhat revealing clothing as well as using clothing styles that fit fashion trends which will further attract our audience. We are planning to use outfits such as:

Primarily we are going to use a range of crop tops:

We are also planning to use bralettes, perhaps underneath shirts looking like this:

These crop tops and bralettes will play a key role in our artist's appearance and we will also be using these fashion styles in our music video.

In terms of the outfits for the boy in our music video we are going to use two main different styles- one to represent his good-looking and adventurous self in the video game and another to represent how he is in reality. For the video game the boy will be wearing more attractive, fashionable and masculine-looking clothes such as:

From this collection of images you can see that clothes that the boy will be wearing in the video game part of our music video will include on-trend clothing items, including checkered shirts, denim jackers and ripped jeans, making his look quite simple but effective.

Aside from the video game, when we show the boy simply just in his bedroom he will be wearing much baggier clothes, such as a hoodie and tracksuits to portray him as his geeky and lazy self:

In terms of the boy's clothing in these parts of our music video, we want to convey his sense of loneliness but also his geeky personality through his clothes and by using baggy and in-colourful clothing, we can achieve this.
