Forms and Conventions of Music Artists' Websites:
Online advertising today is one of the main ways in which companies choose to advertise their products and websites have proved particularly popular for marketing artists and their music. By having a website, fans can easily access information about their favourite artists, including dates for tours and concerts, the artist's activity on social media, merchandise, etc. It is a fast, easy and direct way to connect an artist with their fan base. Here are some of the key conventions of these websites:
- Use of cross media-convergence by providing the links to the artists' social media profiles, such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
- Having a 'sign up' option where audiences can subscribe to a newsletter about the artist through email.
- They also have a link to the online merchandise store which takes you to another part of the site. Here you can buy products related to the artist, for instance clothing, music (CDs and downloads/streams), accessories, etc.
- There are also links provided on the website to listen to the artists' songs or watch their music videos.
