R&P Post 56: Adding to our Website!

Hiya! In this post I will be updating you on the improvements we have made to our website since we first started to create it and the extra things that we have now added.

So once we finished with the front page of our website, we moved on to the 'About' page which tells the audience all about the artist and gives context to their life. We started off by creating quotations which give our artist excellent reviews:

This picture shows the quotations that we created and the photograph of the woman you can see is just one that came with the automatic format of the website. For the quotations we also selected a specific font and font size in order to make them bold and stand out to our audience:

We chose to use the font 'Raleway' for these quotations because it is simple and adds to the simplistic yet effective aesthetic of the background used for all the pages of our website. Once we had created quotations giving Kati great reviews about her music, we added paragraphs next to them, writing about her life and enabling our audience to 'get to know' Kati:

In these paragraphs, we wrote that Kati was born in Lisbon, Portugal but she moved to London as a child and was brought up in Croydon, South London. We chose Croydon because it is not an especially successful area in London which will then emphasise the success of our debut artist and reinforce how 'great' she is. Also by using a small area like this, this will enable our audience to connect more with her on a personal level.

Also in this screenshot, you are able to see the photo that we are using for the 'About' section of our website. We chose this photograph because it suits the aesthetic of this page and also shows her with a range of make-up, which will significantly attract the female part of our audience.

After creating the 'About' page of our website, we moved on to creating the 'Music' page. On this page you are able to add playlists, music videos and also songs by the music artist. So we began by adding the debut single for our artist 'You Are The Solution':

This image shows how we added the album name, our artist's name, the currency of the price of the single, the genres that our song matches and we also added a small description, saying to our audience that this is a 'sneak peak' of Kati's debut album as when the audience plays this, it will only play a 30 second example of the song. One thing we all decided that we didn't like, however, is the photograph we originally picked for this part of our website. So we tried another photograph instead:

We much preferred the photo used here rather than the one above as it suits the look of this page much more, and by using a slightly different photograph of Kati than ones we have used before on our website, it increases the sense of variety which will keep our audience interested in our artist.

Another page we have added to our website is a 'Tour' page. For this we created a tour poster for our artist. When it came to completing this poster and this page of our website, we had to consider where we would have a tour, what dates we would use and which venues we would have our artist performing at. As we are advertising a debut artist, this means that they will be relatively unknown to the public so we decided that we would not have a world or European tour, and instead we decided that our artist will simply have a UK tour. We chose to have these concerts taking place in March next year because this will hypothetically give our audience between three and four months to buy tickets which is a common amount of time for fans of a music artist to wait to see them in concert, and it also allows them to prepare ahead.

For our tour poster we decided to use this photograph:

This photograph of Kati was taken at the photoshoot we did on 15/10/17. We chose this particular photograph for our tour poster because we feel that it will work well on a poster. The way in which Kati is leaning slightly towards the left gives the photo an interesting composition and angle, and also allows space for text to be written onto the photograph. This text will be the different tour dates that we have chosen. So once we decided on the picture that we were going to use, we took it to Photoshop.
I myself was responsible for creating this poster but before I began using Photoshop for this, we created a list of dates for our artist's UK tour with the venues included:
  • MONDAY 5TH MARCH: KOKO LONDON
  • TUESDAY 6TH MARCH: KOKO LONDON
  • FRIDAY 9TH MARCH: BRIXTON O2 ACADEMY
  • SATURDAY 10TH MARCH: BRIXTON O2 ACADEMY
  • SUNDAY 11TH MARCH: MK11 MILTON KEYNES
  • MONDAY 12TH MARCH: BIRMINGHAM O2 ACADEMY
  • TUESDAY 13TH MARCH: BIRMINGHAM O2 ACADEMY
  • FRIDAY 16TH MARCH: NEWCASTLE O2 ACADEMY
  • SATURDAY 17TH MARCH: O2 ACADEMY NEWCASTLE
Once we had done this, we copy and pasted this text onto Photoshop, on top of the photograph of Kati:

In this screenshot you can see the tour dates added in the bottom half of the image, and at the top I began to add Kati's name to the poster as well. We decided to use this particular font for Kati's name because we like its aesthetic because although it is rather simplistic, it also has quite a cool edge to it which will attract our audience. However, before we decided on this particular font, we tested out other fonts as well using dafont.com:

Out of all these different fonts, as a group we decided that the one in the bottom left-hand corner would be the most suitable for our artist and would give our tour poster a pleasing and appealing aesthetic. For the tour poster, we are also using capital letters for all our text to make it bold and attention-grabbing for our audience.

I then added text next to Kati's name:

Here you can see how I added 'UK TOUR 2018' at the top of the photo to clearly demonstrate what this poster is advertising.

Once the text at the top of the photo was added, I then began to change the positioning of the text showing the dates of the tour:

In this screenshot you are able to see how moved this text more towards the middle of the image, and I then planned to increase the spacing in between each line.

You can see the effect that this had in the image below:

Below you can see the finalised version of our tour poster:

So once I had created this tour poster, Lesley, who is the person in our group who is in charge of making our website, added this to the website, along with links for visitors to the website to buy tickets for our tour:

So far, this is everything we have on our website- we have an 'About', 'Music' and 'Tour' page. The creation of our website has been going well so far, with our group helping Lesley with coming to grips with the website editing tools of Wix, such as how to add text and to change the colour of different text, and also, for our tour page, how to add links to buy tickets which was the most challenging thing we have encountered so far with creating our website. However, it is becoming easier and easier to make changes and add to it.

Come back again soon for another update on how the website is going! See you soon!
